The leadership of the Molecular Biology and Biotechnology Students’ Association of Ghana (MOBBSAG), University of Cape Coast (UCC), has demonstrated a commendable spirit of initiative and commitment to academic excellence by donating a set of essential laboratory equipment to the Department of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology.
The donation, which took place at the Department’s premises, was aimed at enhancing practical teaching and learning, as well as supporting ongoing research activities. The items presented included a refrigerator, microwave, micropipettes and other consumables critical for molecular and microbiological experiments.
Speaking during the presentation ceremony, the President of MOBBSAG, on behalf of the Association’s executive body, expressed the students’ appreciation to the Department for its continuous support and mentorship. He explained that the gesture was inspired by the Association’s desire to contribute meaningfully to the improvement of student training and to leave a lasting legacy for future cohorts.
“As students of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, we understand the importance of hands-on experience in our field. This donation is our way of giving back to the Department that has nurtured us and of ensuring that our juniors have access to better tools for learning and discovery,” he remarked.
Receiving the donation, the Head of Department, Dr. Daniel Agyirifo expressed deep gratitude to the MOBBSAG leadership for their thoughtfulness and sense of responsibility. He commended the students for their initiative and assured them that the donated equipment would be put to good use in advancing practical sessions and student-led research.
Other faculty members including Dr. (Mrs.) Cynthia Adinortey, Dr. Samuel Acheampong, Dr. Carlos Tettey and students who witnessed the event lauded the Asso
ciation for the initiative, describing it as a shining example of proactive student leadership.
The event ended with a brief inspection of the donated equipment, followed by a group photograph of staff and MOBBSAG executives. The Department once again acknowledged the Association’s invaluable contribution to promoting the study and practice of molecular biology and biotechnology at UCC.
